Our Story

Seeing the gap
Domestic Sprinklers was launched by Colin Taylor, Chairman, as a specialist fire sprinkler company to work in the Residential and Domestic sprinkler markets. At this time there were only two other companies in the UK working in the same market and approximately 15 companies working in the commercial market.

Retrofitting sprinkler systems
We won a major contract from Dorset County Council to retro fit sprinkler systems into all of their care homes. This was an industry first and led to us being awarded a contract with BUPA to fit over 20 care homes.

Grand designs for progress
The domestic marketplace was building fast, and by the end of 2004 we completed 1,500 installations into domestic homes. There were some notable installations during this period including four projects for Grand Designs, two for Sarah Beeny’s home improvement programme, and three winning projects for the Observer Design Awards.

Embracing new partners
We formed partnerships with Building Control departments and delivered Continuous Professional Development talks to them in return for being nominated as approved installers. We also formed official partnerships with seven Fire Brigades including Hampshire, Dorset and Cornwall. We supported them by running live burn demo’s and have to date installed 12 systems into properties which have seen

our controlled live burns showing the effectiveness of sprinklers.
For almost three years we worked with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service providing monthly live burns at their Eastleigh headquarters. These demo’s were attended by MP’s and key Government personnel, all with a view to promoting the use of sprinklers.

Pioneering a new market
The commercial industry finally acknowledged that there was a separate Residential and Domestic (R&D) industry and that it was building fast. Domestic Sprinklers were the only remaining, original company at this stage, and as such, Colin Taylor was invited to join the British Automatic Fire Sprinkler Association (BAFSA) on their Council. This was a major step forward because it gave a voice to the R&D industry and encouraged support from the wider sprinkler industry in the UK.

History is made
We continued to grow and in 2012 were appointed by BAFSA and the Building Research Establishment (BRE) to carry out the first ever retro fit high-rise installation in the UK and Europe. This proved to everyone that it was not only possible to install a system without disturbing the residents, but it was also cost effective. This led to us winning a number of similar projects and is now standard practice in the industry. We continued to grow, branching out with new regional offices, which allowed us to standardise costs and ensure consistent levels of service.

Embracing new partners
By 2020, we offered a full design and installation service for Domestic Residential and Commercial fire sprinkler systems. Employing seven in-house designers, each using MagiCAD and Canute for all Fluid Hydraulic Calculations.

Leading with a renewed purpose
This year we established the Sprinklers Group, an umbrella company holding together our two growing divisions; Sprinklers Domestic and Sprinklers Commercial. Our group status aligns with our vision of becoming one of the fastest growing and most admired fire prevention services providers in the UK, Channel Islands and Ireland.
